Interpretation of the Afterlife

As a painter and an artist, I am constantly seeking inspiration from the world and from different perspectives. My recent projects have been guided by the question of how interpretations of the afterlife are viewed across the world. Through my art, I seek to gain a deeper understanding of humanity and the rich and diverse beliefs that comprise the human condition.

Until Valhalla

The Fight to Valhalla is a depiction of the brutality a Viking had to endure to reach what was known as; "The Hall of the Fallen". According to Norse mythology, a man had to be killed in battle to reach this hall of heroes. Dying in battle ensured respect for the fallen as well as a reward for their bravery. The piece displays a Viking's last moments before ascending to Valhalla. His piercing eyes demonstrate his acceptance despite his gory exterior.

Deeply Rooted

Deeply Rooted, is a piece to exhibits the devotion of a druid to a tree. To druidism, trees are sacred, a reflection of their ancestors, and a key component in their foundations. The sacred nature of the tree is demonstrated through the utilization of light. Aimed directly at the center tree, the sunlight guides a viewer's focus in its innate beauty and significance.

After-life

Salvation

Salvation, a piece to display Christianity. In this religion, your sins determine the difference between a damnation to hell, or a phenomenal and promising existence in heaven. The woman's suffocation is aimed to represent the possibility of hell, while the bright hand represents the possibility of salvation that exists in Christianity. The contrast in the piece displays the polarity in the two consequences determined during life.

Tunnel Vision

Tunnel Vision is a piece that conceptualizes Atheism. The idea that the end of our lives holds nothing further. The belief system often interprets death as an absolute indicated by the empty, yet bright, space at the "end of the tunnel".

Anywhere and Everywhere

Anywhere and everywhere is a piece that is aimed to capture Panentheism, a religion in which God is thought to exist in every part of he universe, intersecting with everything and everyone in and beyond space and time. Followers believe he is everywhere, existing within all of us. The painting represents a god-like figure existing within a mysterious combination of earth and space to represent the expansiveness the religion recognizes God to have.

Until we Meet Again

Until we Meet Again is a depiction of the Day of the Dead tradition and its significance. Day of the Dead is a day to celebrate remembering ones ancestors. It is believed that by displaying a photo of a deceased loved one with offerings of their favorite foods, the act of remembering preserves their spirit. The day is dedicated to positive reflection which is portrayed in the brightness and approachability of the piece.

Stone Tears

Stone tears is a piece one of the many beliefs in ancient Egyptian philosophies. Early Egyptian statues all missing noses is no coincidence or fragile mishap. It is thought that until the nose is cut off a statue, it remains alive.

The Cycle of Samsara

The cycle of Samara is a piece dedicated to capturing the beauty and acceptance of reincarnation. The idea that life is a cycle of death and rebirth on a never ending journey to enlightenment.

And Again

And Again is a piece celebrating Chinese Buddhism. The piece captures a Chinese dragon that carries symbolic significance to the religion as a formidable force. Representing good luck, strength, health and yang.

Trapped Souls

Trapped Souls portrays lost spirits after death. Their fluid movement and varying colors display the urgency and emotions the souls encounter on their journey to escape a waiting room fate.
